I know a lot about marketing, but I have so much more to learn.
In fact, that’s one of the things I love most about this field; it’s constantly changing, and the players that consistently learn and adapt are the ones who win out.
But let’s be real: there’s also a lot of bullshit out there. Snake oil salesmen that promise to help you gain a thousand followers overnight and make your first million by next week.
That’s why I’m ultra discerning about what I spend my time reading. I’m looking for the good stuff–the real resources that provide actionable tips for improving, moving the needle and bringing more money in the door.
Here are five resources I’ve returned to multiple times over the last few months to squeeze out every last ounce of their wisdom. I think you’ll find them super valuable, too.
1. How to Grow Your Site to 10,000 Visitors Per Month via SumoMe
This was one of the first guides I read from SumoMe when I launched this blog back at the start of 2016, and it wound up being the first of many.
Their guides are so amazing because they’re an ultimate resource—everything you need to know about a single specific topic, all in one place.
This particular guide was written by expert content marketer Sarah Peterson. In it, she explains how to hit that coveted 10,000 visitors per month milestone by honing in on your target audience, creating all-time amazing content and following a solid republishing strategy.
2. Applying the 80/20 Rule to Your Marketing via Quicksprout
Ever heard of the Pareto principle? It’s also called the 80/20 rule, and it says that in almost any scenario, 20% of your efforts will yield 80% of your results.
It sounds crazy, but this article demonstrates in thorough detail how very true it is, especially when it comes to your marketing efforts.
So what does that mean? If you can identify that uber-effective 20%, you can capitalize on it, cutting back your workload without a noticeable impact on results.
It was written by modern marketing genius Neil Patel, by the way.
3. 9 Best Tips for Medium Marketing (plus a crash course on how to conduct your own case studies) via Buffer
No, ‘Medium Marketing’ does not mean ‘marketing that’s in between small and large.’
Medium is a free content publishing platform where anyone can write and distribute articles, and in recent months it’s exploded as a place to put your “thing” out there and get discovered.
In this article, the experts behind one of my favorite social media tools, Buffer, explore which strategies pay off and which fall flat when trying to get noticed on the platform.
Bonus points for telling us exactly how they measured their results, so you can duplicate the same experiments for your own business.
4. The Art of Scannable Content via Hubspot
The sad fact is, most online readers aren’t reading at all. They’re skimming.
So how can you turn them into stark raving customers if they’re not even digging into what you’re writing?
By creating scannable content.
This easy to read guide (it better be!) shows you how to do it in a handful of simple steps.
5. How to Create a Blog That’s Popular and Profitable by Melyssa Griffin
I’m not typically a fan of free online courses.
So often I sign up for them hoping to learn something of value, only to find the presenter spends half the time trying to sell me something.
Blogger and businesswoman Melyssa Griffin offers plenty of her own highly useful paid courses, but this one doesn’t cost a thing and is packed with useful content.
It’s split up into three easily digestible videos that are delivered to you via email. Even if you’ve been in the blogging game for awhile, you’ll find some new lessons here.

I really like Melyssa Griffin’s stuff! Like you said, I usually don’t sign up for “free webinar’s” because they’re usually just thinly veiled advertisements, but I actually learned a thing or two from Melyssa. I’m definitely going to check these other things out too!
Yeah, totally hate that about webinars! It’s why I’ve shied away from ever having one. I feel like people have just become wary of them. Melyssa is the best! I hope you find the other resources useful, too 🙂
